I have loved studying personal development almost my entire life! After working way too many years for corporate America, I decided I wanted to be self-employed, and I got my real estate license. I loved it, and told my clients, friends and family that I was in it for life.
But, long about the 8 year mark, I felt burnt-out from working every day of the week in the business and not knowing where to draw boundaries. I was so all-consumed with real estate that I honestly thought about the fact that if I died, my tombstone would read, “Shelle Winkler – Real Estate Agent”. (smile)
Although I have always loved working with people, I was at the point where I was no longer satisfied “just” to be working in real estate. So, I started doing some volunteer work with a couple amazing organizations and I realized, once again, how much I love to work with people.
Confused as to what I wanted to do with my life, I decided to hire a Life Coach. I needed someone to help me look at my life from a different perspective. We worked a few months together, and it was invaluable! In fact, it changed the trajectory of my life. During our last session together she asked me if I had ever thought of being a Life Coach? Ummm, NO! She went on to say she noticed how much I liked to inspire people and she thought I would make an excellent one. I just chuckled…
But, then my love of personal development got the best of me and I decided I would enroll in a Life Coaching program just for my own personal knowledge. I went through Martha Beck’s Coaching Program and it was amazing! Martha Beck is Oprah’s Life Coach. She writes a monthly article in the Oprah magazine, has two Harvard degrees, is a published author, and is beyond brilliant while being flipping hilarious.
After completing Martha Beck’s program, I was still passionately curious about life and its possibilities. My curiosity led me to an another amazing teacher and someone I am still honored to study under today, Brooke Castillo, Founder of The Life Coach School. Besides being one of the smartest people I have ever met, she is one tough lady, and it was not easy getting certified through her program. Since I have trained with two of the most brilliant minds in coaching, I have learned a lot of cutting edge coaching tools that I use in my coaching business today. I can truthfully say, I love being a coach and watching my clients have AHA moments!
