Scarcity Vs. Abundance Mindsets

This week we discuss two different mindsets: The Scarcity Mindset and The Abundance Mindset.  Our attitudes towards scarcity and abundance can influence us in all areas of our lives.  It can affect your real estate business, your career success, how you handle your finances, and your relationships.


HERE ARE SOME OF THE TRAITS OF A SCARCITY MINDSET:

  • The people with scarcity mindsets tend to see life like just like they would a pie. And, if someone else gets a big piece of that pie, that means the less pie there is for them.
  • People with a scarcity mindset tend to live in fear of the future.
  • They think life happens to them and they are victims
  • They quite often find themselves anxious and stressed.
  • They tend to be negative, pessimistic and jealous.
  • They have an extremely difficult time being happy for other’s success.
  • They constantly worry about money.

HERE ARE THE TRAITS OF PEOPLE WITH ABUNDANCE MINDSETS:

  • They believe that there is enough to go around for everyone.
  • They feel empowered, positive and secure.
  • They are happy for others when something exciting happens in their life.
  • They are grateful.
  • And, if something challenging happens in life to a person with an abundance mindset, they look for the lesson.

So, when you compare the two mindsets, you can see it naturally makes a lot of sense to develop an abundant mindset.

Remember, your thoughts create your feelings.

And, believe it or not, we can choose our thoughts, we can tell the brain what to think and focus on. Your brain is so powerful that you just need to learn to harness it’s horsepower.  And the first step is becoming aware of your thoughts.

A common mistake we all make is that we THINK it is the circumstances in our lives that create our feelings.  But, in reality, it is our thinking that is responsible for how we experience the world.

SO HOW DO WE CULTIVATE AN ABUNDANT MINDSET?

  1. Become aware of your thoughts!
  2. Quit comparing yourself to others!
  3. Watch your media consumption. Most advertising is designed to cultivate desires.
  4. Start a gratitude practice.
  5. Give to others. It is true that the more you give, the more you receive. You can do with money, donation of time, and giving away things you no longer want. Even paying it forward at Starbucks.
  6. Develop the belief that there is always more where that came from.
