I can’t really take credit for today’s blog post because it features a beautiful prayer for women by one of my favorite authors on spirituality, Marianne Williamson. This prayer struck a chord with me because it infuriates me that women are treated like livestock (or far worse) in so many countries around the world. For the life of me, I don’t understand why one of God’s most precious creations continues to be silenced, brutalized, raped and killed.
Let’s face it, we live in a man’s world, a world that would cease to exist if not for women. Women are not perfect, but women give birth to life, they nurture it, they teach the world to love, and they give selflessly of themselves. We need to do better at protecting this world’s most valuable resource. I don’t have the answers on how best to go about this, but I do know we can pray.

Today we bear witness to the agony
of females around the world
who have been, are and perhaps even now
are targeted for murder
in the heinous crime of “honor killings.”
For showing a video of their joy at playing in the rain,
for allowing their daughters to wear blue jeans,
for an innocent conversation with a boy…
our minds can hardly take in, dear God,
the evil that would see such things
as reasons for a horrible death.
And yet, dear God, on earth though not in heaven
such things exist.
May the consciousness of heaven
pour forth upon the earth.
May all beings awaken
to the truth within us all,
May waves of love replace all fear,
and peace prevail at last.
Dear God, please protect
Your precious children.
And so it is.
