ARE YOU NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE?

So let me ask you a question…   Are you generally a positive person or a negative person?

I don’t really think many of us consider ourselves negative, and yet if you stop and listen to what we say during normal conversation each day, you can witness a lot of innocent negativity going on.  And, we all do this without realizing that these subtle comments and thoughts create unnecessary negativity in our emotional life.

Here are a few examples:

I am so stressed out…

I am so tired…

I don’t have enough time…

This is a total shit show!

That’s impossible!

She is so annoying!

And, the list goes on and on…

Have you ever wondered why it is so easy to be negative?  Well, let me tell you, it is really easy to be negative because our brain is always in survival mode.  Yep, negativity is a product of our evolution.  As it turns out this was all by design, a negativity bias helped our ancestors make intelligent decisions when in high risk situations so that they lived long enough to pass on their genes. So, there you have it, our brains want to be on the lookout for any kind of negativity… just to keep us safe.  The trouble is, we don’t live in caves anymore so now our negativity is more of a hindrance.

Now the reason I am bringing the subject of innocent negativity to your attention is because I want you to be aware of what type of impact it can have on your life.  It can costing you clients. It could be costing you time. It could be costing you sales. It could be costing you friendships.  Believe me, it is important to be aware of this and to pay attention.

So, the point of this blog is to stress to you that when the brain believes something (like the phrase, “I am so stressed out”), it looks for evidence to prove your belief is true. On the other-hand, if your brain believes, “I can handle whatever comes up,” it will find go searching for evidence of how capable you are.

And here is my recommendation on designing your future:

Start to visualize being in the future you desire. Make that vision so real you can taste and smell it.  Create a three-dimensional full-color motion picture with surround-sound in your mind. That is your goal — your destination. Never forget it and don’t ever never lose track of it. Let what you do every day be done with that vision in mind.  And then just sit back and see what happens….
