HOW DO YOU WANT TO USE YOUR TIME?

I think most of us would agree that the most valuable asset we have is time.  Right?  And, I have to tell you, the older I get, the more I value it because it is the one thing that I cannot create more of.

So, I am really trying to make a conscious effort of looking at how I spend my precious time.  I no longer want to let my days slip by without using my time wisely, and most importantly, being happy in the process.

This is why it is so important to enjoy your job.  When we were putting our kids through college, I worked at a corporate job for 5 years that I absolutely hated, but the paycheck was good and we needed it for the kid’s tuition payments.  But, when I think about this particular period in my life, it makes me sad that I traded 5 precious years of my life (that I can never get back) for a paycheck.

At one point after working there about 3 years, I decided to leave because I was so unhappy.  I went to my boss, gave him a 2 week notice, and he responded by saying that if I didn’t leave he would give me a handsome raise…  so I stayed for a couple more years.  Ugh…

But, I did learn a lot from this experience.  If I summed it up into one sentence, it would be this:

The best way to use your time is to create the life you want!

And, in order to create the life you want, you need to really get serious about what it is you want!  Here are some questions for you to think about:

  1. Are you aware that tomorrow is promised to no one?
  2. What do you want to use your life for?
  3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you currently with your life?
  4. What do you value?  (Example: Spending time with your kids, travel, time alone?)
  5. What takes up your time, and why?
  6. How do you visualize your future? (It is important to have visual picture in your mind of the life you truly want!  Vision boards work great for this too!)
  7. What habits do you currently have that waste your precious time?
  8. What positive change can you make right now that would help you use your time more wisely?

I hope you will take the “time” to truthfully answer the questions above so that you are not just trading your precious hours for dollars OR wasting your time doing things that you do not enjoy.
